The Abiya School Project is a program of the Ibeneneka Learning Community Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. It is expected the school will open by the end of 2023.
The fundraising target is $80,000. To date the nonprofit has raised $27,000.
Funding is needed for building materials that the villagers cannot make such as windows, doors, and solar panels as well as for desks and other supplies.
The result will be what the villagers have yearned for – an American style school experience for their children with desks, books, writing implements, credentialed teachers, and separate indoor bathrooms for boys and girls!
Since Uganda requires preschool, the Abiya School will start with preschool and grades 1 through 4, eventually expanding to 5-7. Female students outnumber the male students.
The first three buildings have been constructed and the latrines are now in place. The kitchen has been constructed and is in operation. We have also completed the construction of the well for clean drinking water and a solar system for power. The next phase is to build a fence around the perimeter of the schools ground for added protection. The school launched on February 6th, 2024.
